Tips & Tricks

1. If a word is in orange, you can click on it.
2. To get back to the home page, click on the Argus A in the upper left hand corner.
3. Saving a file can be done using Acrobat Reader 4.0. However, when saving the file to your desktop, it is necessary to rename it. If you do not, the default name of the PDF will be "reader_asp.pdf." We are working on a solution for this. For now, please be sure to rename your file.
4. On a PC, use the tab key to advance to the next clickable option.
5. Once there, you can simply hit Enter to activate that click.
6. Click Save my password before you click Log In, and your password will be saved. Then, whenever you go to our web address, you will be automatically logged on by the system. This feature also facilitates the use of the Email notifications from your watch list stocks. To remove this feature, simply click Log Out next to your name on the bar above the quick search boxes. This is located on every page.
7. There are Quick Searches on each page in the upper right corner of the page. Each Quick Search is customized to the section of the site you are in and will yield a list of research extending back 3 months.

Finding Analysts Notes, Reports and Portfolios:

The structure of the site allows you to go straight to the report or portfolio you are interested in. Presently, this can be done two ways:

From the Home Page, you can click on the report you are looking for in the Reports box. This box has the most recently posted reports we have published. Click on the date to open the report.

Or, you can use the drop-down menus to navigate with one click to the section of the site you are interested in. For example, if you know you want to view the Economy at a Glance report, you can do so by clicking Research Reports: Economy at a Glance and pick either the most recent of the look for the date of the report you are seeking. Note that for Reports with Titles (like the Viewpoint, Electric Utility Spotlight and Industry Investment Analyses), the titles are displayed to help you. For Reports that have write-ups on specific stocks, the tickers are listed (as in the Weekly Staff Report, Electric Utility Rankings, and the Company Investment Analyses). Note that the Special Situations & Screens actually has both the title and tickers listed for each.

At a later date (after we launch) we will have an enhanced search that will allow you to search for combinations of products and other information such as author, tickers, keywords, and so on. Presently, keywords are searchable from the quick search boxes. However, the results will be limited until we merge some of our topic fields. This will allow users to achieve a more robust and meaningful result set.

Quick Searches

There are Quick Searches on each page in the upper right corner of the page.

Each Quick Search is customized to the section of the site you are in and will yield a list of research extending back 3 months. For example, if you were looking at the Market Watch or the Digest's Market Review you would be in the Analyst's Notes section of the site. A quick search (or, as it is called on these pages, a Notes Search) will yield only Market Watches, Market Digests, Market Updates, and Action Alerts in the result set.

Quick Search on the Home Page Searches ALL areas.

Quick Search on the Universe of Coverage Pages Searches ALL areas

Database: Universe of Coverage: have alphabetical listings with recent price, rating, and target price.

Database: Company Notes & Ratings: This is the formal way to look up a stock. It was the first method we designed before we came up with all the shortcuts we've gone through already. Enter a ticker or company name, then click submit or click show all for a complete list of the Argus universe. Once you see the company's orange ticker you are looking for, click on the ticker to get the notes and database page.

Bookmarking:

One really nice feature that adds to the timeliness of the site is the ability to Bookmark our notes page so that, for example, if you are following a certain stock and get notification that we have new research from your watch list notification, you have two options. One is to click on the link in the email and get the report. The second is to go into Internet Explorer, click on your bookmark and see immediately what it is that is news. As you can see on the Market Digest & Update page, we list the tickers as well as pertinent information about what's changed. From here you do not have to download anything. Simply click on the ticker for your watch list stock and you will go straight to the database page. Now you will be able to read the new note on that company as well as look at the data changes. This might be useful if you want to examine how a change in, say, earnings, has affected other data and so on.

Setting Up Your Watch List:

From the Home Page, Click on Edit> to the far right of where you see the words Watch List. If you are not on the home page, click on the Argus Logo or Name to get there. To use the default list (the Argus Focus List), do nothing.

To use the default list and get email notifications, check the box at the very bottom of the page and then click Save Changes just above the Email notification section near the bottom of the page.

To add your own companies, click on Add Companies +

In the Build Your Watch List box you can enter a company name or a ticker. Because you can presently enter only one ticker or company at a time, I encourage you to select Show All. This produces a list of the entire Argus Universe, sorted by Company Name with the ticker, Industry, and a check box.

Check the box for every company (up to 30) you would like to have on your Watch List.

Now click Add To List + on the bottom left side of the window. You will then see all the tickers you checked fill into the Your Watch List box.

If you want email notification, check the appropriate box at the bottom of the page.

Click Save Changes. If you selected more than the 30 ticker limit, you will get message box that tells you how many tickers you must remove.

To remove tickers, click on the company/ticker you wish to remove and then click Remove Companies X. The ticker list will refresh. To select more than one ticker to remove, hold the control key down as you click on the difference tickers you want to remove. Then click remove Companies X. To select a contiguous range of tickers, click the top ticker in the list, hold down the shift key, scroll down to the last ticker in the range, and click Remove Companies X.

If you want to restore the default focus list, select all the tickers and click save changes.

Known Problems:

1. When clicking on the PDF symbol, you may experience a TIME-OUT. This is a known problem and we are working on it now. As a temporary measure, closing the window and clicking on the PDF symbol for the report you want again will usually succeed.
